I have been in advertising sale for 10 years but i have just joined a SEO agency who have never had a sales team (they are a new business). I was wondering whether someone could help me, as I am currently cold call to find new business but feel as though i am hitting a brick wall!!!! Who are the best industries to target? Other than cold calling and searching online for prospective clients – what can i do? I’m just looking for the right direction – is the SEO world really this competitive?

On-Page
1. Select proper keywords
2. Check for the Titles, Description and the Heading Tags

On Off-Page(this needs to be taken more care of once the on-page of the site is done and the site is launched). All Off Page Techniques like Blog Posting(Ping the blogs and Submit blogs afterwards), Articles Posting, Forum Posting, Social Bookmarking, etc. This all Techniques need to be done in number of 500 to 700 per month with a fresh content on posting side, because content is the king in SEO. As any search engine will always prefer the fresh and new content while crawling and avoid duplications and spamming of links.

After this much practice per month…your site will definitely will achieve good rank in any search engine(but backlinks from the off-page should be relevant and meaningful)….and then will get good number of visitors which will lead into good sales.

Standard rates go anywhere from – 0 / hour. However, before you hire an SEOer make sure you know the right questions to ask. I honestly would spend a few hours researching SEO just to make sure you can talk their language and ask the right questions.

These are the first things that I would do:

1.) Have them look at your site analytics to see if they can identify any low hanging fruit improvements you could make.

2.) Determine whether or not your website is structurally capable of becoming optimized? Do you have a programmer in-house? Who and how are you going to implement some of the suggestions from the SEOer?

When you finally choose an SEOer, before you let them loose have them devise a step by step plan of what they are going to do to optimize your site. Have them order each strategy/plan by priority and get an estimate for each step. Also, have them provide you with a list of action items that you can do internally. For example, one common SEO strategy is to submit your website to online directories. If that’s part of their plan then have them give you the list of directories so you can add your listing yourself. (DMOZ, Google Places, Yahoo Directory, Yellowpages, CitySearch, etc)

Right – most article directories only allow links in the author’s resource box. If you’re just looking for the SEO benefit of the backlink just about anything in the resource box will do but if you’re looking for good click through rate with human visitors I’ve found that splitting the article into two parts with part one on the article site and part two on your site works well. Tips articles are good for this – put half your tips in the article then your resource box would link back to your site with something like “for 5 more tips on [keyword link] check out [url link]“.
